Nelle ultime settimane ho scritto per questo blog molti articoli dedicati al merchandising correlato alla serie animata “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water”. Sono due i motivi principali: il primo è che l’opera in questione è uno dei miei Anime preferiti; il secondo è correlato al trentesimo anniversario della trasmissione della serie sulle televisioni nipponiche. L’evento è stato celebrato dalla mostra “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water 30th Anniversary Exhibition” (di cui ho acquistato il Catalogo ed alcuni Clear Files) e dalla commercializzazione di un prolifico merchandising a cui non potevo certo restare indifferente. Dopo il bel “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” – Desk Calendar, la sporta in tela Universal Battleship “N-Nautilus” Large Tote e l’imperdibile Gargoyle “That’s Right” T-shirt, è ora il turno del “Gratan” T-shirt.

Sempre commercializzata da Cospa, società giapponese molto attiva nella vendita di gadget legati Anime e Manga, questa bella maglietta è dedicata al “Gratan”, veicolo che insieme al “N-Nautilus” è fra i più iconici della serie “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water”.

“Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” ha fulcro nella lotta che contrappone le forze di Neo-Atlantide e l’equipaggio del sottomarino Nautilus al comando del Capitano Nemo. L’ambientazione di fine ‘800, arricchita con stimolanti riferimenti alla mitologia verniana, si accompagna a personaggi molto ben caratterizzati, carismatici e capaci di farsi apprezzare dagli spettatori. Fra essi spicca la “Grandis Gang”, il trio composto da Hanson, Sanson e cappeggiato da Grandis Granva. Grandis è una giovane donna dai lunghi capelli rossi. Di famiglia nobile, viene abbandonata da un uomo che l’aveva sposata solo per la sua dote. Caduta in disgrazia ed abbandonata da tutti, le restano fedeli solo Hanson e Sanson, suoi domestici. Iniziata una carriera di ladri di gioielli, il trio si metterà all’inseguimento della pietra azzurra di Nadia venendo così coinvolti in eventi che li segneranno profondamente. La “Grandis Gang” è un chiaro omaggio al grande trio di cattivi comici e farseschi delle “Time Bokan”. Se Grandis è una Ms. Dronio dai capelli rosso fuoco, Hanson e Sanson hanno il ruolo di Tonzula e Boyakki ma con caratteristiche invertite: il forzuto del gruppo è Sanson, alto e magro a differenza del tarchiato Tonzula, mentre il genio della meccanica è Hanson, piccolo e cicciottello all’opposto di Boyakki. È proprio Hanson a inventare e costruire il “Gratan”, contrazione di “Grandis Tank”, veicolo dalle mille funzioni e capacità.

“Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” è una serie animata dai numerosi pregi. Uno di essi è certamente il macha design. Ho già avuto modo di dire quale gioiello penso sia il N-Nautilus ma potrei affermare la stessa cosa per i mezzi da battaglia dell’impero di Neo-Atlantide e, certamente, per il “Gratan”. Questo carro armato ante litteram colpisce subito la fantasia per l’originale forma tondeggiante che ricorda uno scarabeo – ulteriore citazione al mondo delle “Time Bokan”, nello specifico ai veicoli zoomorfi degli Yattamen. Ciò detto, il “Gratan” incarna la stravaganza della “Grandis Gang” ma, salvi i primi episodi della serie, non diventa mai un puro elemento comico. Al contrario, il “Gratan” guidato e costantemente migliorato da Hanson, grazie alla mira precisa di Sanson e spinto in battaglia dalla spericolata Grandis, darà più volte filo da torcere a Neo-Atlantide e sarà fondamentale nello svolgimento degli eventi narrati in “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water”.

Come tutte le magliette prodotte da Cospa, anche questa “Gratan” T-shirt è di ottima qualità. Il taglio è preciso, le cuciture forti e, cosa essenziale, l’immagine è ben stampata. È proprio quest’ultima a dare un tocco di grande originalità al prodotto. Il “Gratan” è mostrato in pena accelerazione sotto una bella scritta che ne celebra il nome. Insomma, per me, una maglietta assolutamente imperdibile!

In the last few weeks I have written for this blog many articles dedicated to merchandise related to the animated series “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water“. There are two main reasons: the first is that the work in question is one of my favorite Anime; the second is related to the thirtieth anniversary of the broadcast of the series on Japanese television. The event was celebrated by the exhibition “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water 30th Anniversary Exhibitn” (of which I purchased the Catalogue and  some Clear Files) and by the marketing of a prolific merchandising to which I certainly could not remain indifferent. After the beautiful “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” – Desk Calendar, the Universal Battleship “N-Nautilus” Large Tote and the unmissable Gargoyle “That’s Right” T-shirt, it’s now the turn of the  “Gratan” T-shirt.

Sold by Cospa, a Japanese company very active in the sale  of Anime and Manga gadgets, this beautiful t-shirt is dedicated to the “Gratan”, a vehicle that together with the “N-Nautilus”  is among the most iconic of the “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” series.

“Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” is centered in the fight between the forces  of Neo-Atlantis and the crew of the submarine Nautilus under the command of Captain Nemo. The setting of the late 1800s, enriched with stimulating references to Vernian mythology, is accompanied by very well-characterized, charismatic characters capable of being appreciated by the spectators. Among them stands out the “Grandis Gang“, the trio made up of Hanson, Sanson and headed by Grandis Granva. Grandis is a young woman with long red hair. From a noble family, she was abandoned by a man who had married her only for her dowry. Disgraced and abandoned by all, only Hanson and Sanson, her servants, remain faithful to her. Having begun a career as jewel thieves, the trio will set out in pursuit of Nadia’s blue stone, thus becoming involved in events that will mark them deeply. The “Grandis Gang” is a clear homage to the great trio of comic villains of the “Time Bokan“. If Grandis is a Ms. Dronio with fiery red hair, Hanson and Sanson have the role of Tonzula and Boyakki but with inverted characteristics: the strong man of the group is Sanson, tall and thin unlike the stocky Tonzula, while the mechanical genius is Hanson, small and chubby as opposed to Boyakki. It was Hanson himself who invented and built the “Gratan“, a contraction of “Grandis Tank“, a vehicle with a thousand functions and capabilities.

“Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” is an animated series with many merits. One of them is certainly macha design. I’ve already said what jewel I think  the N-Nautilus is,  but I could say the same thing for the battle vehicles of  the Neo-Atlantis empire and, of course, for the “Gratan”. This ante litteram tank  immediately strikes the imagination for its original rounded shape reminiscent of a scarab – a further reference to the world of the “Time Bokan“, specifically to the zoomorphic vehicles of the Yattamen. That said, the “Gratan”  embodies the extravagance of the “Grandis Gang” but, except for the first few episodes of the series, it never becomes a pure comic element. On the contrary, the “Gratan”  guided and constantly improved by Hanson, thanks to Sanson’s precise aim and pushed into battle by the reckless Grandis, will give Neo-Atlantis a hard time and will  be fundamental for the events narrated in “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water“.

Like all T-shirts produced by Cospa, this “Gratan” T-shirt is also of excellent quality. The cut is precise, the seams are strong and, crucially, the image is well printed. It is precisely the latter that gives a touch of great originality to the product. The “Gratan” is shown in painful acceleration under a beautiful inscription celebrating its name. In short, for me, an absolutely unmissable t-shirt!
