La mostra “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water 30th Anniversary Exhibition” ha celebrato il trentesimo anniversario della messa in onda sulle TV giapponesi della serie “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water”, realizzata dal ben noto Studio Gainax. Sotto nome “Nadia: Il Mistero della Pietra Azzurra”, la serie fu trasmessa in Italia nel 1991 con non poche omissioni e censure.  Vi ha posto rimedio la nuova edizione realizzata nel 2003 per l’home video. Nuovo adattamento e nuovo doppiaggio hanno ridato onore ad una serie fra le mie preferite che, dietro la patina di un tipico racconto di formazione, cela temi universali di grande importanza: il rapporto natura/tecnologia, l’uso distruttivo delle grandi scoperte scientifiche, il razzismo, la fascinazione per il potere, etc. La mostra “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water 30th Anniversary Exhibition” si è tenuta l’anno scorso in varie location nipponiche ed è stata accompagnata dalla commercializzazione di alcuni gadget dedicati alla serie. Fra essi, ho già parlato del catalogo della mostra e di alcuni Clear Files; aggiungo ora questo bel “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” – Desk Calendar.

L’articolo in oggetto non ha nulla di straordinario. Si tratta di un piccolo calendario da scrivania come ce ne sono tanti. Il valore aggiunto consiste nell’essere dedicato a “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water”, serie che il calendario celebra con una bella collezione di illustrazioni sfogliabili mese dopo mese. Benché tali immagini non siano inedite, sono state scelte con molta cura e con l’evidente intenzione di mostrare quelle più iconiche della serie ed apprezzate dal pubblico.

Questo “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” – Desk Calendar fa ormai bella mostra di sé sulla mia scrivania e sono sicuro che, anche quando un nuovo anno arriverà, esso resterà al suo posto come personale omaggio ad una serie che amo tantissimo.

Il piccolo calendario ha, per me, un ulteriore valore aggiunto. Fra le immagini riprodotte sulle sue pagine, infatti, vene sono due che apprezzo da così tanto tempo da averle ridisegnate di mio pugno ai tempi delle scuole medie.

The “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water 30th Anniversary Exhibition” celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Japanese TV broadcast of the series “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” made by the well-known Studio Gainax. Under the name “Nadia: Il Mistero della Pietra Azzurra”, the series was broadcast in Italy in 1991 with many omissions and censorship.  On 2003, a new adaptation and dubbing have regained honor to one of my favorite series which, behind a typical coming-of-age story, talks about universal themes of great importance: the relationship between nature and technology, the destructive use of great scientific discoveries, racism, the fascination with power, etc. The exhibition “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water 30th Anniversary Exhibition” was held last year in various locations in Japan and was accompanied by the marketing of some gadgets dedicated to the series. Among them, I have already mentioned the exhibition catalogue and some Clear Files; I am now adding this nice “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” – Desk Calendar.

The item in question is nothing extraordinary. It is a small desk calendar as there are many. The added value is that it is dedicated to “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water”, a series that the calendar celebrates with a beautiful collection of illustrations that can be browsed through month after month. Although these images are not unprecedented, they have been chosen with great care and with the clear intention of showing the most iconic ones from the series and appreciated by the public.

This “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” – Desk Calendar now stands proudly on my desk and I am sure that, even when a new year arrives, it will remain in place as a personal tribute to a series I love so much.

The small calendar has, for me, an added value. Among the images reproduced on its pages, in fact, there are two that I have appreciated for so long that I had redrawn them myself in middle school days.
