C-style Petit Eva Summer! Swim Wear!

In anni di vita di questo blog, non ho certo fatto mistero della mia passione per la serie animata “Neon Genesis Evangelion” andata in onda in Giappone nel 1992. La complessa storia narrata nel cartone vive ancora oggi grazie alla costante evoluzione del concept originale.  Sviluppo che ha suo apice nella saga cinematografica “Shin Evangelion” (conosciuta anche come “Rebuild of Evangelion”) il cui quarto film è stato proiettato nei cinema nipponici a marzo di quest’anno. Tale lungamente atteso evento ha, ovviamente, rilanciato il brand che, a onor del vero, in trent’anni di vita ha saputo sempre restare ai vertici dell’immaginario collettivo generando un merchandising che ha raggiunto vette di perversa varietà spesso mai viste prima. E’ proprio ad una di queste infinite forme di celebrazione consumista che dedico queste righe e che risponde al nome di “C-style Petit Eva Summer! Swim Wear!”.

La passione dei Giapponesi (e non solo) per le cose piccine e puccettose è risaputa. Ovviamente si tratta di un gusto ampiamente sfruttato anche dall’entertainment nipponico che, in una corsa forsennata alla simpatia estrema, non lesina infinite versioni caricaturali dei principali protagonisti di Anime e Manga. Non fanno eccezione le tre eroine di “Neon Genesis Evangelion” (Rei Ayanami, Shikinami Asuka Langley e Makinami Mari Illustrious), riprodotte in versione Swim Wear in questo set Bandai che compone una piccola scenetta di Beach Volley estivo.

Il simpatico set “C-style Petit Eva Summer! Swim Wear!” è, come spesso avviene, una trappola tesa a tutti gli appassionati. Un’imboscata da cui è pressoché impossibile sfuggire se non a danno del proprio portafoglio. I tre personaggi sono proposti in tre versioni la cui unica differenza sono i colori dei costumi da bagno. Non solo, ogni personaggio è commercializzato in confezioni singole che non mostrano il contenuto. Ne deriva che, per saziare la propria, vorace mania collezionista, è necessario comprare ben più di nove confezioni per completare la raccolta. Ah, diavoli di Giapponesi!

Ciononostante, due sono le mani tese allo sventurato appassionato. Per prima cosa, la confezione mostra sul lato superiore del packaging la sagoma ed il nome del personaggio contenuto (non la versione ma è innegabile che tale informazione offerta dai “magnanimi” responsabili marketing nipponici conceda all’acquirente una maggior consapevolezza di acquisto). La seconda è che il set “C-style Petit Eva Summer! Swim Wear!” è stato commercializzato nel 2012. Ciò comporta che, nei canali dell’usato, è possibile trovare i tre personaggi in buste di plastica trasparenti ed a prezzo assai ridotto.

Tutto ciò premesso, che ruolo ha il sottoscritto in tutto questo? Da Nerd/Otaku quale sono, non potevo certo rimanere insensibile al trappolone in oggetto ed, infatti, ne acquistai una confezione a non ricordo più quale edizione del Lucca Comics and Games. Ovviamente comprai quello dedicato a Shikinami Asuka Langley, il mio personaggi preferito di “Neon Genesis Evangelion” come ampiamente dimostrato in articoli precedenti tipo: “Shikinami Asuka Langley Figuarts Mini”, “Shikinami Asuka Langley T-Shirts” e “Shikinami Asuka Langley, Shunya Yamashita 2010 Version – 1/7 Resin Kit”. Nel corso del mio viaggio in Giappone del 2017, recuperandolo in un negozio di usato, mi accaparrai un secondo set, questa volta avente ad oggetto Makinami Mari Illustrious. A questa sorniona donzella ho dedicato articoli come “Mari Makinami Illustrious T-Shirt” e “Mari Makinami Illustrious Shopping Bag”. Per chi se lo chiedesse, secondo il sottoscritto, Rei Ayanami non esiste!

Orbene, che farne di questi due set? Il mio progetto è di realizzare un piccolo diorama riproducente la scena di gioco fra Asuka e Mari. L’idea è simile a quella che ha dato vita al “Hikaru Ichijyo VF-1S SD”: usare un prodotto commercializzato già montato e colorato per ridipingerlo, migliorarne la fattura generale e realizzare un’opera finale che abbia la mia personale impronta artistica. Si tratta di un divertissement che mi piace concedermi ogni tanto come distrazione da lavori modellistici più impegnativi.

Conto di divertirmi molto nel colorare questi divertenti soggetti nella speranza di dargli nuova vita e più apprezzabile dignità. Se siete interessati, restate sintonizzati per gli ulteriori sviluppi.

In the years of life of this blog, my passion for the animated series “Neon Genesis Evangelion” is not a secret. The complex story told in the cartoon is still alive today thanks to the constant evolution of the original concept.  Development that has its apex in the film saga “Shin Evangelion” (also known as “Rebuild of Evangelion“) whose fourth film was shown in Japanese cinemas in March this year. This long-awaited event has, of course, relaunched the brand that, to tell the truth, in thirty years of life has always been able to remain at the top of the collective imagination, generating a merchandising that has reached heights of perverse variety often never seen before. It is precisely to one of these infinite forms of consumerist celebration that I dedicate these lines and that responds to the name of “C-style Petit Eva Summer! Swim Wear!”.

The passion of the Japanese (and not only) for small and cute things is well known. Obviously this is a taste widely exploited by Japanese entertainment that, in a mad race for extreme sympathy, makes endless caricature versions of the main protagonists of Anime and Manga. No exception to this are the three heroines of “Neon Genesis Evangelion” (Rei Ayanami, Shikinami Asuka Langley and Makinami Mari Illustrious), reproduced in Swim Wear version in this Bandai set that makes up a small scene of summer Beach Volleyball.

The cute “C-style Petit Eva Summer! Swim Wear!” set is, as is often the case, a trap set for all fans. An ambush from which it is almost impossible to escape if not to the detriment of your wallet. The three characters are offered in three versions whose only difference are the colors of the swimsuits. Not only that, each character is marketed in individual packages that do not show the content. It follows that, to satiate your voracious collecting mania, it is necessary to buy well over nine packs to complete the collection. Ah, devils of the Japanese!

Nevertheless, two helps are offered to enthusiasts. First, the package shows on the upper side of the packaging the silhouette and the name of the character contained (not the version, but it is undeniable that this information offered by the “magnanimous” Japanese marketing managers gives the buyer a greater awareness of the purchase). The second is that the “C-style Petit Eva Summer! Swim Wear!” set was marketed in 2012. This means that, in the used products markets, you can find the three characters in transparent plastic bags and at a much reduced price.

That said, what is my role? As a Nerd/Otaku which I am, I could not remain insensitive to the trap in question and, in fact, I bought a pack at I do not remember what edition of Lucca Comics and Games. Obviously I bought the one dedicated to Shikinami Asuka Langley, my favorite character of “Neon Genesis Evangelion” as widely demonstrated in previous articles such as: “Shikinami Asuka Langley Figuarts Mini“, “Shikinami Asuka Langley T-Shirts” and “Shikinami Asuka Langley, Shunya Yamashita 2010 Version – 1/7 Resin Kit“. During my 2017 trip to Japan, retrieving it from a used products store, I bought a second set, this time featuring Makinami Mari Illustrious (“Mari Makinami Illustrious T-Shirt” and “Mari Makinami Illustrious Shopping Bag“). For those who are wondering, according to me, Rei Ayanami does not exist!

Well, what to do with these two sets? My project is to make a small diorama reproducing the game scene between Asuka and Mari. The idea is similar to the one that gave birth to the “Hikaru Ichijyo VF-1S SD“: use a commercial product already assembled and colored to repaint it, improve the general workmanship and create a final work that has my personal artistic imprint.

I plan to have a lot of fun coloring these subjects in hopes of giving them new life and more appreciable dignity. If you are interested, stay tuned for further developments.
