Cavalcando l’onda del precedente articolo dedicato alla Universal Battleship “N-Nautilus” T-shirt,scrivo ora queste righe per un’altra maglietta dedicata alla splendida serie animata “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” che, commercializzata da Cospa contestualmente alla precedente, risponde al nome di “Seaside Nadia” T-shirt. Come dimostrano i numerosi articoli presenti su questo blog, nutro una vera passione per questo Anime che, forte del quarantesimo anniversario della trasmissione della serie televisiva in Giappone, ha recentemente goduto di nuovo merchandising dall’impatto assai problematico sul mio vizio all’acquisto compulsivo. A prova di ciò, cito a titolo di esempio: “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water 30th Anniversary Exhibition” (Catalogo e Clear Files compresi), “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” – Desk Calendar, Universal Battleship “N-Nautilus” Large Tote, Gargoyle “That’s Right” T-shirt, “Gratan” T-shirt, “The Secret of Blue Water” T-shirt, Universal Battleship “N-Nautilus” T-shirt e, appunto, la “Seaside Nadia” T-shirt oggetto di questo articolo.

“Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” è una serie animata prodotta dallo studio Gainax e diretta da Hideaki Anno, deus ex machina di “Neon Genesis Evangelion“. La serie fu trasmessa in Giappone fra il 1990 ed il 1991. In Italia, andò in onda su Italia 1 nel luglio 1991 con il titolo “Il Mistero della Pietra Azzurra“. Per il sottoscritto, sedicenne ed appassionato di Manga e Anime, fu amore a prima vista nonostante un adattamento a dir poco discutibile e modifiche sostanziali della trama. Per fortuna, tutto ciò non intaccò l’originalità, la complessità e l’intensità di un’opera innovativa sotto infiniti aspetti. Uno di essi è certamente la caratterizzazione dei giovani protagonisti: Nadia, una giovane acrobata ignara delle sue origini, e Jean, un ragazzo francese appassionato di ingegneria.

L’anno è il 1889, l’Esposizione Internazionale di Parigi mostra al mondo i grandi progressi della scienza e della tecnica. L’umanità pare proiettata verso un futuro radioso dove nulla sembra impossibile. Il giovane Jean incarna l’entusiasmo dell’epoca, la fiducia assoluta verso un progresso che, ai suoi occhi, è destinato ad elevare l’uomo ed a migliorare le condizioni in cui vive. Nadia, al contrario, rappresenta l’ancestrale legame con la natura e le sue regole primordiali, i suoi ritmi e leggi. Proteggere la natura e gli animali è la sua priorità, la sua regola di vita. Vegetariana ed animalista ante litteram, Nadia si fa portavoce di convinzioni che, dal suo punto di vista, non ammettono compromessi anche se ciò significa mettere a repentaglio la propria vita. Nel corso della storia narrata in “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water”, entrambi i personaggi evolveranno profondamente, maturando una consapevolezza che li aiuterà a trovare la propria strada.

Ciò che ho particolarmente apprezzato della maglietta “Seaside Nadia” è la rappresentazione stilizzata del legame di Nadia con la natura. L’ambiente caraibico mostrato nell’immagine richiama alla memoria le puntate del cartone animato ambientate sull’isola deserta, contesto ove le opposte visioni di Nadia e Jean trovato espressione più conflittuale. Insomma, “Seaside Nadia” T-shirt è un altro must to have per qualunque appassionato della serie “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” e, nel caso fosse necessario confermalo anche in questa sede, rispecchia appieno l’alto standard qualitativo dei prodotti commercializzati da Cospa grazie all’ottimo tessuto, alle cuciture resistenti ed un’immagine ben riprodotta in ogni dettaglio.

Riding the wave of the previous article dedicated to the Universal Battleship “N-Nautilus” T-shirt, I now write these lines for another t-shirt dedicated to the excellent animated series “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” which, marketed by Cospa at the same time as the previous one, responds to the name of “Seaside Nadia” T-shirt. As evidenced by the numerous articles on this blog, I have a real passion for this Anime which, on the strength of the fortieth anniversary of the broadcast of the television series in Japan, has recently enjoyed new merchandising with a very problematic impact on my impulse to compulsive buying. As proof of this, I cite as an example: “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water 30th Anniversary Exhibition” (Catalog and Clear Files included), “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” – Desk Calendar, Universal Battleship “N-Nautilus” Large Tote, Gargoyle “That’s Right” T-shirt, “Gratan” T-shirt, “The Secret of Blue Water” T-shirt, Universal Battleship “N-Nautilus” T-shirt and, of course, the “Seaside Nadia” T-shirt subject of this article.

For the undersigned, sixteen years old and passionate about Manga and Anime, it was love at first sight despite a questionable adaptation and substantial changes to the story. Fortunately, all this did not affect the originality, complexity and intensity of an innovative work in infinite respects. One of them is certainly the characterization of the protagonists: Nadia, a young acrobat unaware of her origins, and Jean, a French boy passionate about engineering.

The year is 1889, the International Exhibition in Paris shows t the great progress of science and technology. Humanity seems projected towards a bright future where nothing seems impossible. The young Jean embodies the enthusiasm of the time, the absolute confidence in a progress that, in his eyes, is destined to elevate man and improve the conditions in which he lives. Nadia, on the contrary, represents the ancestral link with nature and its primordial rules, its rhythms and laws. Protecting nature and animals is his priority, his rule of life. Vegetarian and animal rights activist ante litteram, Nadia is the spokesperson for beliefs that, from her point of view, do not allow compromises even if it means putting one’s life at risk. Over the course of the story told in “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water“, both characters will evolve deeply, maturing an awareness that will help them find their own way.

What I particularly liked about the “Seaside Nadia” T-shirt  is the stylized representation of Nadia’s connection to nature. The Caribbean environment shown in the image recalls the episodes of the cartoon set on the desert island, a context where the opposing visions of Nadia and Jean found a more conflictual expression. In short, “Seaside Nadia” T-shirt is another must-have for any fan of the “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” series and, in case it is necessary to confirm it here, it fully reflects the high  quality standard of the products marketed by Cospa thanks to the excellent fabric, resistant seams and a well-reproduced image in every detail.
