La serie animata “Macross” del 1982 è uno dei miei Anime preferiti di sempre. Consapevole della banalità di tale affermazione per chiunque abbia un minimo di dimestichezza con questo blog, aggiungo che raramente mi faccio sfuggire l’occasione di acquistare il merchandising disponibile su questa serie. Ciononostante, compiacere il mio desiderio di possesso non coincide con usare quanto acquistato. Gli esempi di questo distorto meccanismo non riguardano soltanto le scatole di montaggio ma anche i gadget acquistati nel corso degli anni. Basti portare ad esempio lo “U.N. Spacy” patch che, acquistato su Hobby Link Japan nel 2014, è stato usato solo l’anno successivo come raccontato nell’articolo “Macross” Fun Goods by Cospa. Nell’articolo citato non manco di segnalare di aver comprato non uno ma due esemplari del suddetto patch. Ebbene, ad un passo dai 10 anni di distanza, è finalmente giunto il momento di usare anche il secondo “U.N. Spacy” patch battendo il recordprecedente detenuto dal Asuka Shikinami Langley patch, comprato nel mio primo viaggio in Giappone datato 2015 e usato solo nel 2023.

Come nei casi precedenti, compreso quello dei Patch “Patlabor”, ho deciso di applicare anche questo “U.N. Spacy” patch su una giacca destinata alle mie attività in bicicletta. Non si tratta, però di quella nera che uso già da una decina d’anni, bensì di un capo del tutto nuovo, dal colore rosso ed in tessuto tecnico. La tinta mi è piaciuta molto e, oltre ad assicurare una buona visibilità, si abbina benissimo ai colori della mia Atala a pedalata assistita.

Il patch in questione è di ottima fattura. La qualità del ricamo e del tessuto è così elevata da far sembrare lo stemma pronto per essere cucito su un giaccone da pilota della U.N. Spacy. Per dovere di cronaca, la U.N. Spacy è la sezione spaziale dell’esercito delle Nazioni Unite, l’organizzazione sovranazionale che ha unificato l’intera umanità dopo la devastante guerra mondiale scoppiata per il controllo della nave aliena precipitata sulla terra in un ipotetico 1999. Il simbolo che la contraddistingue è fra i più riusciti che siano mai stati creati per una serie a cartoni animati. Semplice e subito riconoscibile, mi ha sempre affascinato per la sua immediatezza. Se si unisce tutto ciò al fatto che tale simbolo è riprodotto su tutti i caccia VF-1, gli aerei a configurazione variabile caratteristici della serie “Macross”, si può ben capire come il patch in oggetto sia per me assolutamente iconico.

L’idea di applicare il patch “U.N. Spacy” sulla giacca da poco acquistata è sorta spontaneamente. Erano anni che cercavo l’occasione giusta per utilizzare quest’ultimo patch che desideravo trovasse una collocazione all’altezza del simbolo riprodotto e della qualità di fattura.

La nuova giacca mi è subito sembrata la scelta ideale grazie ai colori che si abbinano ottimamente all’emblema della “U.N. Spacy”. Nutro, inoltre, un grande piacere nell’ostentare le mie passioni; perciò, non mancherò di indossare con orgoglio la nuova giacca in sella alla mia bella Atala.

The 1982 animated series “Macross” is one of my all-time favorite Anime series. Aware of the banality of such a statement for anyone with a minimum of familiarity with this blog, I would add that I rarely pass up the opportunity to purchase the merchandise available on this series. Nevertheless, pleasing my desire for possession does not coincide with using what I purchase. Examples of this distorted mechanism concern not only the assembly kits but also the gadgets purchased over the years. It is enough to take as an example the “U.N. Spacy” patch that, purchased on Hobby Link Japan in 2014, was used only the following year as recounted in the article “Macross” Fun Goods by Cospa. In the mentioned article, I do not fail to point out that I bought not one but two examples of the said patch. Well, one step away from 10 years, the time has finally come to also use the second “U.N. Spacy” patch beating the previous record held by the Asuka Shikinami Langley patch, bought on my first trip to Japan dated 2015 and used only in 2023.

As in previous cases, “Patlabor” patches included, I also decided to apply this “U.N. Spacy” patch to a jacket intended for my cycling activities. It is not, however, the black one that I have already been using for about ten years, but an entirely new garment, red in color and made of technical fabric. I really liked the color scheme and, in addition to ensuring good visibility, it matches well with the colors of my Atala pedal-assisted bike.

The patch in object is of excellent workmanship. The quality of the embroidery and fabric is so high that the patch looks like it is ready to be sewn onto a U.N. Spacy pilot’s jacket. For the sake of the record, U.N. Spacy is the space branch of the United Nations Army, the transnational organization that unified all mankind after the devastating world war that occurred for the control of the alien spaceship that crashed to earth in a hypothetical 1999. Its distinctive symbol is among the most successful ever created for a cartoon series. Simple and immediately recognizable, it has always fascinated me because of its immediacy. Combine this with the fact that this symbol is reproduced on all VF-1 fighters, the variable configuration aircraft characteristic of the “Macross” series, you can well understand how the patch in question is absolutely iconic to me.

The idea of applying the “U.N. Spacy” patch to the recently purchased jacket arose spontaneously. I had been looking for years for the right opportunity to use this latest patch, which I wished would find a placement that matched the reproduced symbol and the quality of workmanship.

The new jacket immediately struck me as the ideal choice because of the colors that match the “U.N. Spacy” emblem excellently. I also take great pleasure in showing off my passions; therefore, I will not fail to wear the new jacket proudly while riding my beautiful Atala.
