Il mio primo viaggio in Giappone risale al 2015. Ne seguirono altri tre nel 2016, 2017 e 2019 ed ognuno di essi fu occasione per compere di ogni genere. Risale proprio al 2015 l’acquisto del patch “Evangelion Asuka Shikinami Langley” che ho conservato per tanti anni in attesa di trovare il modo migliore per usarlo.

Il patch fa parte dell’ampia gamma di merchandising legato alla serie animata “Neon Genesis Evangelion”, di Hideaki Anno. Trasmessa nel 1992 sulle tv giapponesi, “Neon Genesis Evangelion” è un’opera monumentale, introspettiva e strettamente legata al suo autore che si è evoluta nel tempo fino alla saga cinematografica “Rebuild of Evangelion” (o “Shin Evangelion”) il cui quarto ed ultimo film è giunto nei cinema nipponici nel 2021. Ciò che più mi affascina di “Neon Genesis Evangelion” sono i personaggi e la loro caratterizzazione. Fra essi, sono particolarmente devoto ad Asuka Shikinami Langley, pilota dell’EVA 02, eroina dalla psicologia complessissima, tanto forte nell’apparenza quanto fragilissima nell’intimo.

Date queste premesse, non potevo certo resistere a questo patch dedicato proprio ad Asuka ed acquistato in uno dei negozi Cospa disseminati per il quartiere di Akihabara a Tokyo. Come tutti i prodotti Cospa, anche questo patch è molto ben realizzato. La qualità dei materiali e del ricamo è ottima. Le scritte ed i disegni sono riprodotti in modo nitido e preciso. Un prodotto degno di nota, esattamente come i precedenti patch Cospa di “Patlabor” e “Macross” che ho applicato sulla giacca che indosso durate le gite in bici invernali.

Nonostante l’ottimo prodotto e la mia passione per il personaggio rappresentato, il patch “Evangelion Asuka Shikinami Langley” è rimasto celato in un cassetto dal 2015. Un così lungo oblio è stato dovuto alla mancanza di una capo d’abbigliamento che meritasse di essere abbellito con tale patch. I saldi invernali di quest’anno mi hanno permesso di superare questa impasse grazie all’acquisto di un bel giacchino in tessuto tecnico di cui avevo un gran bisogno per le mie gite in bici. Il colore rosso/arancione della giubba è risultato perfetto per il patch in questione che ho prontamente applicato sul petto.

Sono molto soddisfatto del risultato finale ed è con piacere che sfoggerò questo originale giacchino nelle mie sortite outdoor.

My first trip to Japan was in 2015. Three more followed in 2016, 2017 and 2019 and each was an opportunity for all kinds of shopping. It was in 2015 that I purchased the “Evangelion Asuka Shikinami Langley” patch that I have kept for many years waiting to find the best way to use it.

The patch is part of the wide range of merchandise related to the animated series “Neon Genesis Evangelion” by Hideaki Anno. Broadcast in 1992 on Japanese TV, “Neon Genesis Evangelion” is a monumental, introspective and closely related work to its author that has evolved over time to the film saga “Rebuild of Evangelion” (or “Shin Evangelion“) whose fourth and final film arrived in Japanese theaters in 2021. What fascinates me most about “Neon Genesis Evangelion” are the characters and their characterization. Among them, I am particularly devoted is Asuka Shikinami Langley, pilot of EVA 02, a heroine with a complex psychology, as strong in appearance as she is fragile at heart.

Given this background, I couldn’t resist this patch dedicated specifically to Asuka and purchased at one of the Cospa stores scattered around the Akihabara district of Tokyo. Like all Cospa products, this patch is very well made. The quality of the materials and embroidery is excellent. The lettering and designs are reproduced crisply and accurately. A noteworthy product, just like the previous Cospa patches of “Patlabor” and “Macross” that I applied to the jacket I wear during winter bike rides.

Despite the excellent product and my passion for the character represented, the “Evangelion Asuka Shikinami Langley” patch has been hidden in a drawer since 2015. Such a long oblivion was due to the lack of a clothing item that deserved to be adorned with such a patch. This year’s winter sales allowed me to overcome this impasse by purchasing a nice, technical fabric jacket that I greatly needed for my bike rides. The red/orange color of the jacket turned out to be perfect for the patch in question, which I promptly applied to the chest.

I am very pleased with the end result and will gladly sport this original jacket on my outdoor sorties.
