Roy Focker Thin Dry Hoodie – Cospa

Molti degli articoli scritti per questo blog recensiscono acquisti legati al mio interesse per i fumetti ed i cartoni animati giapponesi. Non di rado, si tratta di libri d’illustrazioni, vestiario ed ogni tipo di gadget che il fantasioso ed inesauribile entertainment nipponico commercializza per alleggerire il portafoglio di sprovveduti appassionati come me. Ho una particolare mania per le T-shirt dedicate a serie come “Macross”, “Mobile Suit Gundam”, “The Secret of Blue Water”, “Neon Genesis Evangelion”, opere che, nel bene o nel male, hanno contribuito alla mia formazione e mi hanno reso l’adulto che oggi sono. Si è aggiunta da poco alla mia collezione la felpa “Roy Focker Thin Dry Hoodie”, capo d’abbigliamento di Cospa legato al quarantesimo anniversario dalla prima trasmissione televisiva della serie “Chōjikū Yōsai Macross”.

“Macross” è uno dei capisaldi dell’animazione nipponica. Realizzata nel 1982, la serie arrivò in Italia nel 1986. Benché pesantemente modificata dagli Americani, me ne innamorai a tal punto da esserne appassionatissimo ancora ai giorni nostri. Le ragioni di questa devozione incondizionata sono innumerevoli ma ruolo fondamentale ha certamente il caccia a configurazione variabile VF-1 “Valkyrie”, frutto creativo del geniale mecha designer Shoji Kawamori. I VF-1 sono velivoli realizzati grazie alla tecnologia aliena recuperata da un relitto spaziale precipitato sulla terra in un ipotetico 1999 e costituiscono il nucleo principale della U.N. Spacy, la flotta spaziale terrestre chiamata a difendere il nostro pianeta dagli Zentradi, una razza aliena dalle intenzioni tutt’altro che pacifiche. La serie “Macross” ha come personaggi principali i membri della “Skull Squadron” il cui leader, Roy Focker, pilota un VF-1 “Valkyrie” dalla livrea fortemente ispirata ai velivoli della squadriglia VF-84 “Jolly Rogers” della USAAF. Ciò non deve stupire, i “Jolly Rogers” sono molto iconici e lo stesso VF-1 è simile ai caccia da supremazia aerea F-14 “Tomcat” su cui volavano i piloti del VF-84 negli anni ’80.

Roy Focker è caratterizzato secondo i tipici cliché dell’asso arrogante, sciupafemmine, segnato dal suo tragico passato ma col cuore d’oro. Ne risulta un personaggio carismatico ed affascinante, capace di colpire la fantasia e le emozioni dello spettatore. Roy Focker è, in altre parole, uno dei personaggi più iconici e riconoscibili della serie animata “Macross“. La notorietà e l’apprezzamento di Roy Focker presso il pubblico è, per ovvie ragioni, un elemento che rende commercialmente molto allettante lo sfruttamento di tutto quanto lo richiami alla memoria, in particolare il simbolo del teschio e delle tibie incrociate che identifica il sul velivolo. Non fa eccezione la “Roy Focker Thin Dry Hoodie” di Cospa che ho recentemente acquistato tramite Hobby Link Japan.

Questa felpa con cappuccio è molto ben fatta. Il simbolo “Jolly Rogers” che caratterizzata il personaggio di Roy Focker è riprodotto sul retro con grande precisione e senza sbavature. La grafica del teschio con le tibie incrociate è lo stesso presente sui timoni di coda del VF-1S di Roy. Inoltre, il fatto che tale simbolo sia sovrastato dalla scritta SDF-1 “Macross”, astronave su cui è imbarcata la “Skull Squadron” fa sembrare questa felpa come un capo ufficiale dei membri della squadriglia. Una vera chicca per ogni appassionato della serie.

La felpa è in tessuto tecnico sottile e leggero, idrorepellente e traspirante, appare ottima anche per attività sportive e brevi uscite fuoricasa. Benché giustificato, non mi fa impazzire lo sfondo integralmente nero ma il capo in questione è veramente bello ed è ormai parte integrante del mio guardaroba.

Not infrequently, these are illustrated books, clothing and all sorts of gadgets that the imaginative and inexhaustible Japanese entertainment markets to lighten the wallets of hopeless fans like me. I have a particular mania for T-shirts dedicated to series such as “Macross”, “Mobile Suit Gundam”, “The Secret of Blue Water”, “Neon Genesis Evangelion”, works that, for better or worse, have contributed to my education and made me the adult I am today. Recently added to my collection is the “Roy Focker Thin Dry Hoodie“, an item of clothing by Cospa linked to the fortieth anniversary of the first television broadcast of the series “Chōjikū Yōsai Macross“.

“Macross” is one of the cornerstones of Japanese animation. Made in 1982, the series arrived in Italy in 1986. Although heavily modified by the Americans, I fell in love with it to such an extent that I am still passionate about it to this day. The reasons for this unconditional devotion are innumerable, but a fundamental role is certainly played by the VF-1 “Valkyrie” variable configuration fighter, the creative fruit of the brilliant mecha designer Shoji Kawamori. The VF-1s are aircraft made from alien technology recovered from a space wreckage that crashed to Earth in a hypothetical 1999 and constitute the main nucleus of the U.N. Spacy, the Earth’s space fleet called to defend our planet from the Zentradi, an alien race with intentions that are anything but peaceful. The “Macross” series has as its main characters the members of the “Skull Squadron” whose leader, Roy Focker, pilots a VF-1 “Valkyrie” with a livery strongly inspired by the aircraft of the USAAF’s VF-84 “Jolly Rogers” squadron. This should come as no surprise, the “Jolly Rogers” are very iconic and the VF-1 itself is similar to the F-14 “Tomcat” air supremacy fighters that VF-84 pilots flew in the 1980s.

Roy Focker is characterised according to the typical clichés of the arrogant ace, womanizer, marked by his tragic past but with a good heart. The result is a charismatic and fascinating character, capable of striking the spectator’s imagination and emotions. Roy Focker is, in other words, one of the most iconic and recognisable characters of the “Macross” animated series. Roy Focker’s notoriety and popularity with the public is, for obvious reasons, an element that makes it commercially very attractive to exploit anything that calls him to mind, particularly the skull and crossbones symbol that identifies his aircraft. The “Roy Focker Thin Dry Hoodie” by Cospa, which I recently purchased via Hobby Link Japan, is not an exception.

This hoodie is very well made. The “Jolly Roger”s’ symbol that characterises the Roy Focker character is reproduced on the back with great precision and without smearing. The graphic of the skull with crossed bones is the same as on the tail of Roy’s VF-1S. Furthermore, the fact that this symbol is surmounted by the inscription SDF-1 “Macross”, the spaceship on which the “Skull Squadron” is embarked, makes this hoodie look like an official garment of the squadron members. A real treat for any fan of the series.

The hoodie is made of thin and light technical fabric, water-repellent and breathable, and looks great for sports activities and short trips out. Although justified, I’m not crazy about the all-black background, but the outfit in question is really nice and is now an integral part of my wardrobe.
