Nel weekend del 2 e 3 ottobre 2021 si è tenuto il Verbano Model Show nel Palazzo dei Congressi della città di Stresa. L’evento ha avuto un’indubbia importanza per svariati motivi. Prima di tutto, in area nordovest di Milano, è stato il primo concorso di modellismo ad essere organizzato dopo quasi due anni di lockdown dovuto alla pandemia da Covid-19. In secondo luogo, ha goduto, almeno ai miei occhi, di due condizioni favorevoli: l’ottimo ricordo che conservo della prima edizione del concorso che si tenne a Verbania nel 2018 e la stessa location del World Model Expo del 2014. Considerate tali e tante premesse più che positive, non potevo certo mancare ad un tale appuntamento. Ho, quindi, deciso di partecipare al concorso con i miei modelli più recenti: “He-162 D” nella categoria “Aerei 1/48 Master”, “Yuki Mori” nella categoria “Figurini Fantasy Master” ed il piccolo “VF-1S Super Deformed” nella categoria “Fantasy Master”.

Sono certo che gli organizzatori del Verbano Model Show possano considerarsi più che soddisfatti del successo ottenuto dall’evento. I modelli iscritti sono stati più di 2.600 con un buon numero di stand commerciali vari ed interessanti. La qualità dei lavori esposti è stata medio-alta, con punte di assoluta eccellenza. Tutte le categorie hanno avuto un nutrito numero di iscrizioni e, cosa più importante, il concorso non ha preso una piega elitaria. Le differenze qualitative fra la categoria Standard e Master era chiara ed evidente e ciò ha certamente garantito a tutti i modellisti, anche a quelli meno esperti, di non veder sminuiti i propri modelli in esposizione e di gareggiare fra propri pari.

Sono molto contento di aver partecipato al Verbano Model Show. Mi spiace che il mio “He-162 D” non abbia saputo distinguersi fra gli altri modelli concorrenti ma sono assai grato per la medaglia di bronzo che ha vinto “Yuki Mori” soprattutto perché, essendo una Japan Figure, ha particolarità ed originalità che la rendono un soggetto non proprio adatto alla generica categoria “Fantasy Figure”.

On the weekend of October 2 and 3, 2021, the Verbano Model Show was held in the Palazzo dei Congressi in the town of Stresa. The event had an undoubted importance for several reasons. First of all, in the northwest area of Milan, it was the first modeling contest to be organized after almost two years of lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Secondly, it enjoyed two favorable conditions: the excellent remembrance I have of the first edition of the contest held in Verbania in 2018 and the same location of the World Model Expo dated 2014. Given such premises, I certainly could not miss un event like that! I have, therefore, decided to participate in the competition with my most recent models: “He-162 D” in the “Aircraft 1/48 Master” category, “Yuki Mori” in the “Figurini Fantasy Master” category and the small “VF-1S Super Deformed” in the “Fantasy Master” category.

I’m sure that the organizers of the Verbano Model Show can consider themselves more than satisfied with the success of the event. More than 2.600 models were registered with a good number of various and interesting commercial stands. The quality of the exhibits was medium-high, with peaks of absolute excellence. All categories had a large number of entries and, most importantly, the contest did not take an elitist turn. The qualitative differences between the Standard and Master categories were clear and evident and this has certainly guaranteed to all modelers, even the less experienced ones, not to see their models diminished and to compete among their peers.

I am very happy to have participated in the Verbano Model Show. I am sorry that my “He-162 D” did not stand out among the other competing models, but I am very grateful for the bronze medal won by “Yuki Mori“, especially because, being a Japan Figure, it has peculiarities and originality that make it a subject not really suitable for the generic “Fantasy Figure” category.
