Qualche weekend fa, dopo più di un anno di chiusure e limitazioni di spostamento dovuti alla pandemia, sono tornato da Hobbylandia, il mio negozio di modellismo di fiducia. Con mio grande piacere, mi attendevano alcune belle sorprese fra cui gli interessanti set in resina oggetto del presente articolo.

Patchwork Models è una realtà tutta italiana nata in tempi recenti. Sfruttando la tecnologia della stampa 3D, offre un’interessante gamma di soggetti tesi tanto a dettagliare i modelli in scala quanto a fornire gli accessori necessari ad arricchire i relativi diorami. Rimandando al sito ufficiale per maggiori dettagli, vorrei qui focalizzarmi sui tre set da me acquistati.

I primi due riproducono entrambi la scaletta di accesso al cockpit dell’F-14 ma in scale diverse: 1/48 ed 1/72. Il terzo set è dedicato a scatole multiuso in scala 1/72. 

Pur non essendo un esperto di stampa 3D, ritengo che gli accessori in oggetto siano molto ben progettati e realizzati. I dettagli sono finemente riprodotti e, in particolare, sono rimasto piacevolmente sorpreso dalla precisione delle scalette di accesso al cockpit del caccia F-14. Anche nella ridottissima scala 1/72, ogni dettaglio è perfettamente distinguibile ed i numerosi fori di alleggerimento sono tutti precisi e ben allineati. Le scatole per il trasporto dei materiali sono qualitativamente altrettanto valide. Esse sono ulteriormente apprezzabili in quanto soggetti che, soprattutto in scala 1/72, raramente sono proposti dal mercato. Conseguentemente, esse sono molto utili per arricchire un diorama aeronautico e non solo. A conferma di ciò, segnalo un catalogo Patchwork Models è particolarmente ricco di piccoli ed inusuali accessori di questo tipo; ammennicoli che certamente possono fare la felicità dei dioramisti che si dedicano a scale particolarmente ridotte.

Se vi state chiedendo per quale motivo ho acquistato due F-14 Ladders in scale diverse, è presto detto. Sono un grande appassionato della serie animata nipponica “Macross” del 1982 e del relativo film cinematografico “Macross – Ai Oboete ImasuKa” del 1983. Fulcro dell’opera non è solo una bella storia fantascientifica e l’appassionante triangolo amoroso che si istaura fra i protagonisti ma anche e soprattutto gli iconici caccia a configurazione variabile VF-1 “Valkyrie”, velivoli chiaramente ispirati dall’F-14. In quanto modellista, non posso che essere un accanito acquirente dei modelli dedicati ai caccia di “Macross” commercializzati da Hasegawa proprio nelle scale 1/48 e 1/72.  Questa mia passione è confermata tanto dai numerosi libri della collana Variable Fighter Master File di Soft Bank Publishing che ormai fanno da tempo parte della mia biblioteca personale quanto dai modelli da me realizzati come il VF-1J “S-FAST PACK” in scala 1/72.

Proprio il VF-1J “S-FAST PACK” ed il diorama in cui è ambientato dimostrano quanto mi sarebbero stati utili i set Patchwork Models oggetto di questo articolo. Le scatole multiuso avrebbero arricchito splendidamente l’ambientazione in cui è collocato il modello e, soprattutto, la scaletta di accesso al cockpit sarebbe stata assolutamente ideale per completare e dettagliare ulteriormente il caccia.

Sono, quindi, molto contento che Patchwork Models stia commercializzando soggetti così interessanti perché conto di usarli per migliorare ed arricchire i miei modelli.

A few weekends ago, after more than a year of closures and travel restrictions due to the pandemic, I returned to Hobbylandia, my preferred model shop. For my great pleasure, some nice surprises were waiting for me, including the interesting resin sets that are the subject of this article.

Patchwork Models is an all-Italian reality born in recent times. Taking advantage of 3D printing technology, it offers an interesting range of subjects aimed both at detailing scale models and at providing the necessary accessories to enrich the related dioramas. I would like to refer to the official website for more details, but here I would like to focus on the three sets I purchased.

The first two sets both reproduce the F-14 cockpit access ladder but in different scales: 1/48 and 1/72. The third set is dedicated to multipurpose boxes in 1/72 scale. 

Although I am not an expert in 3D printing, I think that these accessories are very well designed and manufactured. The details are finely reproduced and, in particular, I was pleasantly surprised by the precision of the access ladders to the cockpit of the F-14 fighter. Even in the very small 1/72 scale, every detail is perfectly distinguishable and the numerous lightening holes are all precise and well aligned. The boxes for transporting the materials are just as good in quality. They are even more appreciable as items which, especially in 1/72 scale, are rarely offered on the market. Consequently, they are very useful to enrich an aeronautical diorama and not only. As a confirmation of this, I would like to point out that the Patchwork Models catalogue is particularly rich in small and unusual accessories of this type; small items that can certainly make the happiness of dioramists.

If you’re wondering why I bought two F-14 Ladders in different scales, it’s easy to say. I am a big fan of the 1982 Japanese animated series “Macross” and the related 1983 movie pictures “Macross – Ai Oboete ImasuKa“. The heart of the series is not only a good sci-fi story and the exciting love triangle between the main characters, but also and above all the iconic VF-1 ‘Valkyrie’ variable configuration fighter planes, clearly inspired by the F-14. As a modeller, I can only be an avid buyer of the models dedicated to the “Macross” fighters sold by Hasegawa in 1/48 and 1/72 scales.  This passion of mine is confirmed both by the numerous books of the Variable Fighter Master File series by Soft Bank Publishing, which have been part of my personal library for a long time now, and by the models I made, such as the VF-1J “S-FAST PACK“ in 1/72 scale.

The VF-1J “S-FAST PACK“ and the diorama in which it is show how useful the Patchwork Models sets would have been to me. The multipurpose boxes would have splendidly enriched the setting in which the model is placed and, above all, the access ladder to the cockpit would have been absolutely ideal to complete the fighter.

I am, therefore, very pleased that Patchwork Models is marketing such interesting subjects because I plan to use them to improve and enrich my models.
