L’autunno 2023 è stato assai impegnativo in fatto di concorsi di modellismo. Non mi capitava da molti anni una tale sequenza di appuntamenti a così breve distanza uno dall’altro. Dopo Milano Modellistica tenutasi all’interno dell’Hobby Model Expo e il Picchiatelli Trophy di Scanzorosciate (BG), è stato il turno di Modelli sotto la Lanterna 2023, concorso organizzato dai club “Burned Black Model Zena” e “Luci & Ombre” di Genova.

Quando ho saputo del concorso in oggetto, non pensavo di parteciparvi. La consegna dei modelli entro la mattina di sabato, 21 ottobre, e la premiazione il giorno successivo avrebbero, infatti, imposto di alloggiare a Genova per un costoso week end. È stata, quindi, una bella sorpresa scoprire che al Picchiatelli Trophy 2023erano presenti gli organizzatori del concorso di Genova a cui era possibile consegnare i modelli per un prezioso servizio di navetta. Non ho mancato di approfittare di tale opportunità ed ho prontamente iscritto a Modelli sotto la Lanterna 2023 gli stessi soggetti in gara al Picchiatelli Trophy: la Japan Figure “Yuki Mori”, il caccia “He-162 D”, il busto “Abdel Rashid” e il VF-1J “S-Fast Pack”.

Domenica 22 ottobre, sono arrivato a Genova la mattina presto con la mia Dolce Metà. Abbiamo approfittato della bellissima giornata per visitare la città e regalarci un buon pranzo in un delizioso ristorantino immerso nel centro storico.

Verso le due del pomeriggio, abbiamo visitato la mostra in attesa della premiazione prevista per le quattro e mezza. I modelli in concorso erano davvero tanti, tutti di buona se non ottima qualità. Il settore figurini era particolarmente ricco, con soggetti notevoli sia storici che fantasy ed una nutrita presenza di personaggi tratti da film e cartoni animati. Un po’ sottotono era il settore aeronautico, in compenso, modelli e diorami militari in scala 1/35 erano davvero molto belli.

Modelli sotto la Lanterna 2023 si è dimostrato un concorso di alto livello, con un elevato numero modelli iscritti ed un livello qualitativo decisamente alto. In questo contesto, è stato davvero motivo di orgoglio aver vinto una medaglia d’oro con il VF-1J “S-Fast Pack” ed un bronzo con il busto “Abdel Rashid” a cui si è aggiunto un premio speciale per la Japan Figure “Yuki Mori” offerto da Pairate Studio.

Con Modelli sotto la Lanterna si è chiusa una vera maratona di concorso modellistici con un numero di premi e riconoscimenti davvero inaspettato che mi incoraggiano a dedicarmi più che posso a questo meraviglioso hobby.

The fall of 2023 has been very busy when it comes to modeling competitions. I have not had such a sequence of appointments within such a short distance of each other for many years. After Milano Modellistica held as part of the Hobby Model Expo and the Picchiatelli Trophy in Scanzorosciate (BG), it was the turn of Modelli sotto la Lanterna 2023 (Models Under the Lantern 2023), a contest organized by the “Burned Black Model Zena” and “Lights & Shadows” clubs of Genoa.

When I heard about the contest in question, I did not think I would participate. The delivery of models by the morning of Saturday, October 21, and the award ceremony the next day would, in fact, have required staying in Genoa for an expensive weekend. It was, therefore, a nice surprise to discover that the Picchiatelli Trophy 2023 was attended by the organizers of the Genoa competition to whom models could be delivered for a valuable shuttle service. I did not fail to take advantage of that opportunity and promptly entered in Modelli sotto la Lanterna the same subjects competing at the Picchiatelli Trophy: the Japan Figure “Yuki Mori,” the fighter “He-162 D,” the bust “Abdel Rashid“ and the VF-1J “S-Fast Pack“.

On Sunday, October 22, I arrived in Genoa early in the morning with my Sweet Half. We took advantage of the beautiful day to visit the city and treat ourselves to a good lunch in a lovely little restaurant located in the historic center.

Around two o’clock in the afternoon, we visited the exhibition while waiting for the awards ceremony scheduled for 4: 30pm. There were many models in the competition, all of good if not excellent quality. The figurine section was particularly rich, with notable subjects both historical and fantasy and a large presence of characters from movies and cartoons. Somewhat underwhelming was the aviation sector, on the other hand, 1/35 scale military models and dioramas were really very nice.

Modelli sotto la Lanterna 2023 proved to be a high-level competition, with a high number of models submitted and a decidedly high level of quality. In this context, it was indeed a source of pride to have won a gold medal with the VF-1J “S-Fast Pack”and a bronze with the “Abdel Rashid” bust to which was added a special prize for the Japan Figure “Yuki Mori” offered by Pairate Studio.

With Models Under the Lantern, a true modeling competition marathon came to a close with a truly unexpected number of prizes and awards that encourage me to devote myself as much as I can to this wonderful hobby.
