La serie animata “Macross” ha fatto il suo debutto in Giappone il 3 ottobre 1982. La trama principale ruota attorno alla guerra tra gli umani e una razza aliena chiamata Zentradi, con l’astronave SDF-1 Macross al centro delle vicende. La serie ha avuto un enorme successo, generando numerosi sequel, film e spin-off, mantenendo ancora oggi una vasta schiera di fan appassionati. La serie “Macross” inizia con la caduta di un’enorme astronave aliena sulla Terra, che viene poi ricostruita e ribattezzata SDF-1 Macross. Durante la cerimonia di inaugurazione, la Terra viene attaccata dagli Zentradi, una razza di giganti guerrieri. La SDF-1 Macross, nel tentativo di sfuggire all’attacco, si ritrova catapultata ai confini del sistema solare. La trama segue le avventure dell’equipaggio dell’SDF-1 e dei civili a bordo mentre cercano di tornare sulla Terra, affrontando numerose battaglie contro i Zentradi. Al centro della storia ci sono Hikaru Ichijyo, un giovane pilota, Lynn Minmay, una cantante emergente, la cui musica diventa un’arma potente contro gli Zentradi e Misa Hayase, ufficiale addetto alle comunicazioni sull’SDF-1. La serie esplora temi di amore, guerra e convivenza tra diverse specie, mantenendo un equilibrio tra azione e dramma. In Italia, la serie è arrivata in una versione rimaneggiata dalla Harmony Gold statunitense, conosciuta come “Robotech“.

Due personaggi secondari ma cruciali nella saga di “Macross” sono Max e Miria. Max Jenius è un pilota terrestre di grande talento, mentre Miria Fallyna è una pilota delle Meltradi, una fazione zentrade composta esclusivamente da donne guerriere. Le Meltradi sono note per la loro abilità in combattimento e la loro dedizione alla guerra. Miria, asso indiscusso delle Meltradi, incarna pienamente l’indole guerriera di queste ultime tanto da essere costantemente alla ricerca di un avversario capace di appagare il suo desiderio di sfida e supremazia. Il suo incontro con Max sul campo di battaglia sarà per lei shoccante. Non solo la Meltrade trova in Max un avversario alla pari ma sopravvive allo scontro con difficoltà. Dopo varie vicissitudini (tra cui un tentativo di assassinio), Max e Miria si innamorano e Miria decide di rinnegare le sue origini meltradi per combattere al fianco dei Terrestri. Nella flotta meltrade, Miria pilotava un letale Queadluun-Rau rosso, colore che adotta anche per il caccia VF-1J assegnatole dalla UN-Spacy, la forza spaziale terrestre. Si crea così un fantastico duo di assi: Max su VF-1J di colore blu e Miria con livrea rossa.

Il kit in scala 1/72 oggetto di questo articolo rappresenta il VF-1J di Miria nella configurazione Super Battroid. Il VF-1 è un caccia a configurazione variabile sviluppato dai terrestri utilizzando la tecnologia aliena recuperata dall’astronave extraterrestre precipitata sulla Terra. La configurazione Battroid è la trasformazione del caccia in un robot antropomorfo, mentre la versione “J” identifica il modello assegnato agli ufficiali. Il tipo “Super” è specificamente progettato per il combattimento nello spazio, dotato di booster aggiuntivi e armamenti potenziati.

Hasegawa è una società giapponese rinomata per la qualità dei suoi modelli. Specializzata in aerei storici, Hasegawa è ormai da una ventina d’anni impegnata nella realizzazione di numerosi kit dedicati ai mecha tratti dalla sega di “Macross”. Fra essi non mancano quelli dedicati ai velivoli pilotati da Max e Miria, cito a titolo di esempio: VF-1 J Super Gerwalk Valkyrie “Max/Miria Type”in scala 1/72 ed ilVF-1 J Super Valkyrie “Max/Miria Type” with RMS-1 in scala 1/48. L’attenzione ai dettagli e la precisione nella realizzazione dei modelli rendono i kit di Hasegawa molto apprezzati dagli appassionati, me compreso. Non vedo, quindi, l’ora di montare questo nuovo kit e aggiungerlo alla mia collezione!

The animated series “Macross” made its debut in Japan on October 3, 1982. The main plot revolves around the war between humans and an alien race called Zentradi, with the SDF-1 Macross spaceship at the center of the events. The series was a huge success, spawning numerous sequels, films, and spin-offs, while still maintaining a large number of passionate fans today. The “Macross” series begins with the fall of a huge alien spaceship to Earth, which is later rebuilt and renamed SDF-1 Macross. During the inauguration ceremony, Earth is attacked by the Zentradi, a race of giant warriors. The SDF-1 Macross, in an attempt to escape the attack, finds itself catapulted to the edge of the solar system. The plot follows the adventures of the SDF-1  crew and the civilians on board as they try to return to Earth, facing numerous battles against Zentradi. At the center of the story are Hikaru Ichijyo, a young pilot, Lynn Minmay, an up-and-coming singer, whose music becomes a powerful weapon against Zentradi, and Misa Hayase, communications officer on the SDF-1. The series explores themes of love, war and coexistence between different species, while maintaining a balance between action and drama. In Italy, the series arrived in a reworked version from the US Harmony Gold, known as “Robotech“.

Two secondary but crucial characters in the “Macross” saga are Max and Miria. Max Jenius is a very talented pilot, while Miria Fallyna is a pilot of the Meltradi, a zentradi faction made up exclusively of warrior women. Meltradi are known for their combat prowess and dedication to war. Miria, the undisputed ace of Meltradi, fully embodies the warrior nature of the latter, so much so that she is constantly looking for an opponent capable of satisfying her desire for challenge and supremacy. Her encounter with Max on the battlefield will be shocking for her. Not only does she find in Max an equal opponent but survive the clash with difficulty. After various vicissitudes (including an assassination attempt), Max and Miria fall in love and Miria decides to deny her Meltradi origins to fight alongside the humanity. In the Meltradi fleet, Miria flew a lethal  red Queadluun-Rau, a color she also adopts for the VF-1J  fighter assigned to her by UN-Spacy, the Earth Space Force. Thus, a fantastic duo of aces is created: Max on VF-1J in  blue and Miria in red livery.

The  1/72 scale kit covered by this article represents the  Miria VF-1J in the Super Battroid configuration. The VF-1 is a variable configuration fighter developed using alien technology recovered from the extraterrestrial spacecraft that crashed on Earth. The Battroid configurationis the transformation of the fighter into an  anthropomorphic robot, while the “J” version identifies the model assigned to the officers. The “Super” type is specifically designed for combat in space, equipped with  additional boosters and upgraded armaments.

Hasegawa is a Japanese company renowned for the quality of its models. Specialized in historic aircraft, Hasegawa has been engaged for about twenty years in the creation of numerous kits dedicated to mecha taken from the “Macross“. Among them there are those dedicated to the aircraft piloted by Max and Miria, I cite as an example: VF-1 J Super Gerwalk Valkyrie “Max/Miria Type”  in 1/72 scale and the VF-1 J Super Valkyrie “Max/Miria Type” with RMS-1 in 1/48 scale. The attention to detail and precision in the construction of the models make Hasegawa’s kits very popular with enthusiasts, including me. So, I can’t wait to assemble this new kit and add it to my collection!
