Poco dopo la mia partecipazione al concorso Milano Modellistica 2023 che si tiene all’interno dell’Hobby Model Expo, ho deciso di iscrivermi al Picchiatelli Trophy 2023, il concorso di modellismo organizzato dal Gruppo Modellistico Picchiatelli di Scanzorosciate, in provincia di Bergamo. L’evento gode di un’ottima reputazione fra gli appassionati di modellismo. Ciononostante, questa è stata la mia prima partecipazione al concorso in oggetto, probabilmente a causa di due fattori. Il primo è certamente la distanza da casa, troppo breve per giustificare un pernottamento in loco ma troppo gravosa per il doppio viaggio in auto necessario per consegnare i modelli prima e per ritirarli il giorno successivo. Il secondo motivo è la vicinanza con lo Scale Model Challenge di Eindhoven, evento di cui sono entusiasta ed a cui ho partecipato nel 2017 e nel 2019. È evidente che, dato l’impegno economico della trasferta in terra olandese, in quegli anni non mi gravai delle spese aggiuntive dovute alla partecipazione ad altri concorsi concomitanti. Tutto ciò premesso, il 2023 è stato l’anno del mio esordio al Picchiatelli Trophy 2023 e devo tale risultato alla mia Dolce Metà. È stato proprio grazie a lei che ha trovato giustificazione il viaggio fino a Scanzorosciate la mattina di sabato, 7 ottobre. Abbiamo, infatti, approfittato di quest’occasione per tornare a Bergamo a passarvi una piacevolissima giornata in cui abbiamo anche visitato l’Accademia Carrara e la mostra “Tutta in voi la mia luce”.

Il Picchiatelli Trophy 2023 si è tenuto il 7 ed 8 ottobre presso il palazzetto dello sport comunale. Sono rimasto molto sorpreso dai numerosi iscritti e dalla portata internazionale dell’evento. Il concorso, infatti, ha visto la partecipazione di numerosi club esteri ed ha anche beneficiato della presenza di giudici stranieri che portano sempre un diverso quanto apprezzabile punto di vista in fase di giudizio. I modelli erano numerosi in tutte le categorie ed il livello qualitativo decisamente medio/alto. Da parte mia, essendo la mia prima partecipazione, ho calato tutti gli assi di cui disponevo partecipando al Picchiatelli Trophy 2023 con la Japan Figure “Yuki Mori”, il caccia “He-162 D”, il busto “Abdel Rashid” e il VF-1J “S-Fast Pack”.

Non capita spesso che un concorso di modellismo raggiunga, per numero e qualità, i traguardi del Picchiatelli Trophy 2023. È, quindi, con sincero piacere che vi ho partecipato e con vero onore che ho accolto la notizia di aver vinto un oro con il VF-1J “S-Fast Pack” ed un argento con “Yuki Mori”.

Nel corso della premiazione ho ricevuto un premio davvero inaspettato. “Abdel Rashid”, il busto di uomo leone vestito da Tuareg, ha avuto l’apprezzamento di Suzume Shun, una bravissima ragazza che disegna e stampa i suoi personaggi fantasy. Mentre passeggiavo nell’area commerciale della fiera, mi ero soffermato a lungo allo stand di Suzume apprezzando in particolare la miniatura “Working Ant”. Potete ben immaginare la mia sorpresa quando ho scoperto che Suzume aveva deciso di premiare il mio busto proprio con quell’opera. Vorrei, quindi, ringraziare anche in questa sede Suzume, augurandomi di essere all’altezza delle aspettative pittoriche che ripone in me.

Shortly after my participation in the Milano Modellistica 2023 held as part of the Hobby Model Expo, I decided to register for the Picchiatelli Trophy 2023, the modelling competition organized by the Gruppo Modellistico Picchiatelli of Scanzorosciate, in the province of Bergamo. The event enjoys an excellent reputation among modelling enthusiasts. Nevertheless, this was my first participation in this competition, probably due to two factors. The first is certainly the distance from home, too short to justify an overnight stay on site but too burdensome for the double car journey required to deliver the models beforehand and to collect them the next day. The second reason is the proximity to the Scale Model Challenge in Eindhoven, an event I am enthusiastic about and participated in 2017 and 2019. Clearly, given the economic commitment of the trip to Dutch soil, in those years I did not burden myself with the additional expenses of participating in other concurrent competitions. That said, 2023 was the year of my debut in the Picchiatelli Trophy 2023 and I owe this achievement to my Sweetheart. It was thanks to her that the journey to Scanzorosciate on the morning of Saturday, 7 October was justified. In fact, we took advantage of this opportunity to return to Bergamo to spend a very pleasant day there, where we also visited the Accademia Carrara and the exhibition “Tutta in voi la mia luce”.

The Picchiatelli Trophy 2023 was held on 7 and 8 October at the municipal sports hall. I was very surprised by the large number of participants and the international breadth of the event. In fact, the competition saw the participation of numerous foreign clubs and also benefited from the presence of foreign judges who always bring a different and appreciable point of view when judging. The models were numerous in all categories and the quality level decidedly medium/high. For my part, being my first participation, I pulled out all the aces I had at my disposal by participating in the Picchiatelli Trophy 2023 with the Japan Figure “Yuki Mori“, the fighter “He-162 D“, the bust “Abdel Rashid” and the VF-1J “S-Fast Pack“.

It is not often that a modelling competition reaches, in number and quality, the milestones of the Picchiatelli Trophy 2023. It is, therefore, with sincere pleasure that I participated and with true honour that I welcomed the news that I had won a gold medal with the VF-1J “S-Fast Pack” and a silver medal with “Yuki Mori”.

At the award ceremony, I received a very unexpected prize. “Abdel Rashid“, the bust of a lion man dressed as a Tuareg, was appreciated by Suzume Shun, a very talented girl who designs and prints her own fantasy characters. While strolling through the trade fair’s commercial area, I had taken a long break at Suzume’s stan appreciating in particular the “Working Ant” miniature. You can well imagine my surprise when I found out that Suzume had decided to award my bust with that work. Therefore, I would like to thank Suzume here too, wishing me to live up to the pictorial expectations he places on me.
