“Neon Genesis Evangelion” è una degli anime più iconici ed influenti di tutti i tempi. Trasmessa per la prima volta in Giappone nel 1995, la serie televisiva ha entusiasmato il pubblico di tutto il mondo e fatto emergere il genio Hideaki Anno, già coinvolto in altre importanti opere dello Studio Gainax come “Nadia, the secret of blue water”. Il successo della serie fu enorme. Essa riuscì non solo a dare nuova linfa al genere ormai desueto dei mecha giganti ma pose anche le basi di un fenomeno culturale ancora oggi vivissimo. Ciononostante, la serie TV “Neon Genesis Evangelion” fu anche oggetto di feroci critiche, soprattutto per il finale, profondamente pessimista e tecnicamente minimale. L’opera “Neon Genesis Evangelion” fu, quindi, oggetto di rimaneggiamenti ed evoluzioni che sfociarono in una quadrilogia cinematografica conclusasi solo nel 2021 con il film “Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time”.  Nonostante la produzione lunga e travagliata, sono un sincero estimatore di queste quattro pellicole in cui Hideaki Anno torna a riversare tutto sé stesso, modificando sensibilmente la storia precedentemente narrata ed arrivando ad un lieto fine che ho sinceramente adorato. La bellissima Shikinami Asuka Langley “WILLE Ver.” Double-Sided Full Graphics T-Shirt celebra proprio il quarto e ultimo film della quadrilogia nonché Asuka, il mio personaggio preferito della saga.

“Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time” sancisce una netta rottura con quanto narrato nella serie televisiva. Tra le differenze più marcate vi è certamente l’inaspettata lotta che contrappone la WILLE alla NERV, l’organizzazione internazionale creata per combattere gli Angeli e responsabile della creazione delle macchine da combattimento umanoidi multifunzione Evangelion. Si tratta di un ribaltamento di ruolo non indifferente. La NERF, nota fin dalla serie TV, aveva sempre rivestito un ruolo positivo essendo, nonostante svariate ombre, il caposaldo a difesa dell’umanità. La WILLE, invece, è una novità introdotta dal film, vi fanno parte gran parte dei personaggi della saga e rappresenta un’organizzazione anti-NERV, fondata per distruggere la NERV stessa.

Asuka Shikinami Langley è uno dei personaggi principali della saga di “Neon Genesis Evangelion” ed è certamente il mio preferito. Pilota dell’Evangelion Unit-02, Asuka è una ragazza orgogliosa e competitiva, con un passato traumatico che ha influenzato profondamente la sua personalità. Nel quarto film, Asuka fa parte della WILLE e, per il visibilio dei suoi fan, indossa vari outfit fra cui un’inedita plug suit bianca. Le plug suit sono tute aderenti indossate dai piloti degli Evangelion per migliorare la sincronizzazione con le loro unità. Queste tute offrono protezione e monitoraggio delle condizioni di salute del pilota. Nel finale del quarto film, Asuka e Mari indossano plug suit bianche, un colore che nella cultura orientale simboleggia il lutto. La scelta di tale colore è fortemente simbolica; le due ragazze, infatti, sono destinate ad una missione sostanzialmente suicida.

“Neon Genesis Evangelion” is one of the  most iconic and influential anime of all time. Broadcast for the first time in Japan in 1995, the television series thrilled audiences all over the world and brought out the genius Hideaki Anno, already involved in other important works of Studio Gainax such as “Nadia, the secret of blue water“. The success of the series was enormous. It managed not only to give new life to the obsolete genre of  giant mecha but also laid the foundations of a cultural phenomenon that is still very much alive today. Nevertheless, the TV series “Neon Genesis Evangelion” was also the subject of fierce criticism, especially for the ending, deeply pessimistic and technically minimal. The work “Neon Genesis Evangelion” was, therefore, the subject of reworkings and evolutions that resulted in a cinematic quadrilogy that ended only in 2021 with the film “Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0 Thrice Upon a Time“.  Despite the long and troubled production, I am a sincere admirer of these four films in which Hideaki Anno returns to pour all of himself, significantly modifying the story previously told and arriving at a happy ending that I sincerely loved. The beautiful Shikinami Asuka Langley “WILLE Ver.” Double-Sided Full Graphics T-Shirt celebrates the fourth and final film in the quadrilogy as well as Asuka, my favorite character in the saga.

“Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0 Thrice Upon a Time” marks a clear break with what is narrated in the television series. Among the most marked differences there is certainly the unexpected struggle that opposes WILLE to NERV, the international organization created to fight the Angels and responsible for the creation of the Evangelion multifunctional humanoid fighting machines. This is a significant reverse of role. NERF, known since the TV series, had always played a positive role being, despite various shadows, the cornerstone in defense of humanity. The WILLE, on the other hand, is a newly introduced by the film, most of the characters of the saga are part of it and represents an anti-NERV organization, founded to destroy NERV itself.

Asuka Shikinami Langley is one of the main characters in the “Neon Genesis Evangelion” saga and is certainly my favorite. Pilot of the Evangelion Unit-02, Asuka is a proud and competitive girl, with a traumatic past that has profoundly influenced her personality. In the fourth film, Asuka is part of the WILLE and, to the visibility of her fans, wears various outfits including a first-timewhite plug suit. Plug suits are tight-fitting suits worn by Evangelion pilots  to improve synchronization with their units. These suits offer protection and monitoring of the rider’s health condition. In the final of the fourth film, Asuka and Mari wear  white plug suits, a color that in Eastern culture symbolizes mourning. The choice of this color is strongly symbolic; the two girls, in fact, are destined for a substantially suicidal mission.
