Continuo con entusiasmo la mia carrellata di acquisti dedicati alla serie “Urusei Yatsura”, parlando ora di una maglietta molto originale che risponde al nome Urusei Yatsura “Mendo Family” T-shirt. Nei precedenti articoli dedicati al Urusei Yatsura “Lum” Sticker, al Urusei Yatsura “Lum” Full Color Hand Towel e alla Urusei Yatsura “Lum” Large Tote, ho lungamente tediato il lettore raccontando del quarantesimo anniversario dalla prima trasmissione televisiva del cartone animato “Urusei Yatsura”, avvenuta in Giappone nel 1981. Tratta dall’omonimo mangadi Rumiko Takahashi, autrice di altre opere di culto come “Maison Ikkoku”, “Ranma ½” e “Inuyasha”, la serie ottenne subito un enorme successo sia in patria che all’estero (in Italia fu trasmessa col nome di “Lamù, la ragazza dello spazio”). L’impatto sull’immaginario collettivo fu enorme ed è ancora oggi così vivido da giustificare la recente realizzazione di una serie remake (doppiata anche in italiano e disponibile su Amazon Prime Video). Le ragioni di questo successo sono innumerevoli. Ciò che più coinvolge lo spettatore è l’originale commistione fra folclore giapponese e totale follia di contesti e personaggi. Fra questi ultimi, spicca Shutaro Mendo, il giovane rampollo della potente famiglia Mendo, nemesi e contraltare dello scapestrato e sfortunatissimo protagonista, Ataru Moroboshi.

I Mendo sono una ricchissima famiglia i cui membri, uno più bizzarro dell’altro, gestiscono la Mendo Conglomerate. Il nonno di Shutaro è uno stravagante personaggio che adora giocare brutti scherzi a chiunque gli capiti a tiro. Il suo passatempo preferito è organizzare il proprio funerale con finte veglie mortuarie dagli esiti demenziali. Il suo volto è quasi sempre celato dietro una maschera raffigurante simbolo della casata dei Mendo: un polpo con in testa il tradizionale foulard indossato da tanti personaggi del folclore giapponese. È proprio quest’ultima immagine ad essere riprodotta sulla Urusei Yatsura “Mendo Family” T-shirt.

Quanto raccontato dimostra chiaramente che la maglietta in questione impone una conoscenza approfondita della serie “Urusei Yatsura”. Solo una visione attenta dell’opera permette di comprendere ed apprezzare l’immagine riprodotta ed il suo significato. Per quanto mi riguarda, è proprio la criticità di questa T-shirt ad enfatizzarne il fascino. Molto originale è anche il colore, elemento che ha subito attratto la mia attenzione.

Infine, anche questa maglietta conferma lo standard dei prodotti commercializzati da Cospa. La qualità del tessuto e delle cuciture è ottima così come la stampa dell’immagine, riprodotta senza sbavature o imperfezioni.

I continue with enthusiasm my roundup of purchases dedicated to the “Urusei Yatsura” series, now talking about a very original t-shirt that responds to the name Urusei Yatsura “Mendo Family” T-shirt. In the previous articles dedicated to the Urusei Yatsura “Lum” Sticker, the Urusei Yatsura “Lum” Full Color Hand Towel and the Urusei Yatsura “Lum” Large Tote, I bored the reader by telling about the fortieth anniversary of the first television broadcast of the cartoon “Urusei Yatsura“, which took place in Japan in 1981. Based on the manga by Rumiko Takahashi, author of other cult works such as “Maison Ikkoku“, “Ranma 1/2” and “Inuyasha“, the series immediately achieved enormous success both at home and abroad (in Italy it was broadcast under the name of “Lamù, la ragazza dello spazio”). The impact on the collective imagination was enormous and is still so vivid today that it justifies the recent creation of a remake series  (also dubbed in Italian and available on Amazon Prime Video). The reasons for this success are countless. What most engages the viewer is the original mixture of Japanese folklore and the total madness of contexts and characters. Among the latter, Shutaro Mendo, the young scion of the powerful Mendo family, nemesis and counterpart of the reckless and unfortunate protagonist, Ataru Moroboshi, stands out.

The Mendos are a very wealthy family whose members, each more bizarre than the other, managed the Mendo Conglomerate. Shutaro’s grandfather is a quirky character who loves to play tricks on anyone who comes his way. His favorite hobby is organizing his own funeral with fake mortuary wakes with demented outcomes. His face is almost always hidden behind a mask depicting the symbol of the Mendo family: an octopus wearing the traditional scarf worn by many characters of Japanese folklore. It is precisely this last image that is reproduced on the Urusei Yatsura “Mendo Family” T-shirt.

This clearly shows that the shirt in question requires an in-depth knowledge of the “Urusei Yatsura” series. Only a careful viewing of the work allows you to understand and appreciate the image reproduced and its meaning. As far as I’m concerned, it’s the criticality of this T-shirt that emphasizes its charm. The color is also very original, an element that immediately attracted my attention.

Finally, this T-shirt also confirms the standard of the products marketed by Cospa. The quality of the fabric and seams is excellent as well as the printing of the image, reproduced without smudges or imperfections.
